Paula Marshall has over 20 years’ experience developing and delivering strategic funding plans that advance institutions’ missions and build effective relationships with Trustees and volunteer fundraising leaders. She recently joined Global Philanthropic as a senior consultant and is heading the firm’s Giving & Wealth Strategies division.
Paula’s extensive fundraising and strategic development experience has concentrated on the arts and higher education. Most recently, she was with Richmond Associates, a specialist recruitment consultancy which places senior level development officers with leading arts and education institutions. She advised such organisations as Tate, St John’s College, Oxford and the National Galleries of Scotland on fundraising management issues. Prior to this, she led the London School of Economics’ foundation and trust programme. She developed strategic relationships with major UK, US and German foundations, generating support for capital, research and student support as part of the School’s £100 million comprehensive campaign.
Previously, she managed annual giving, corporate sponsorship, foundation, major and deferred giving, and special events programmes, and the volunteer advisory board as Director of Development at Wharton Centre for Performing Arts, Michigan State University, where she obtained the Center’s largest outright cash gift. Her other fundraising posts were with the University of Detroit and Detroit Public Television, the seventh largest public television market in the US. She managed the station’s corporate sponsorship and fundraising programmes, working closely with senior level volunteers from Fortune 500 companies including Ford, General Motors and Chrysler.
In 1998, Paula came to the UK to earn her MSc in Voluntary Sector Organisation from the London School of Economics. Her dissertation compared UK non-profit board member fundraising roles with US non-profit board membership expectations of leadership giving and active fundraising. Her BA is from the University of Michigan.
