John Taylor is a leader in the field of Advancement Services, and
has helped organisations effectively manage relationships with
constituents for more than 20 years. He has worked in a variety of
roles, including as editor of the 1999 CASE book, Advancement
Services: Research and Technology Support for Fund Raising (2nd
Edition 2007) as well as consulting editor of the 2004 CASE book,
Management & Reporting Standards. Mr. Taylor has shared
applications of advancement strategies as an instructor for Duke
University, faculty for CASE conferences and symposiums, and
through frequent speaking opportunities at numerous other
software user, corporate, and nonprofit organisation conferences.
Currently, he manages FundSvcs.org, which provides both an
online community (Listserv) and an information exchange site he
created as a resource for the Advancement Services profession.
John Taylor assists nonprofit organisations with the enhancement
of the operational aspects of development and execution of
strategic plans. His work with clients involves auditing
advancement operations, determining preparedness for
comprehensive campaigns, and assessments of current
procedures. Mr. Taylor's expertise also helps organisations design,
implement and maintain effective database management
policies, including pre-conversion systems assessments and postimplementation
analysis. He began consulting in 1992, and
currently serves clients through Advancement Solutions
Consulting.
While working as Vice President for Research and Data Services at
the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)
from 2002 until he started Advancement Solutions, Mr. Taylor
managed all research efforts and helped develop the premier
online matching gift product and service, the CASE Matching
Gifts Clearinghouse. He also served as Vice Chairman overseeing
revisions to the nationally accepted fundraising CASE
Management & Reporting Standards.
For 14 years, Mr. Taylor led all gift processing and reconciliation
efforts, managed the maintenance of an accurate database of
more than 400,000 records, and assumed responsibility for all
aspects of security donations at Duke University. Through his
guidance as Director of Alumni and Development Records, the
institutional advancement staff at Duke improved gift processing
productivity by more than 500%, developed procedures to
reduce its lost alumni rate to less than 4%, and created an awardwinning
development website.
Mr. Taylor's educational background includes a bachelor's degree
from Vanderbilt University and a Certificate in Nonprofit
Management from Duke University. He also reached the rank of
Lieutenant Commander during time served in the United States
Navy. Mr. Taylor currently resides in Durham, North Carolina.
